How To Read Literature by Terry Eagleton

How to Read Literature by Terry Eagleton explains different ways to use literary criticism in regards to openings, character, narrative, interpretation and value. It uses passages from many well known authors from Shakespeare to J.K. Rowling.

The author shows us passages and then critics them on occasion with examples from other literary critics to show us how a certain passage can have many different meanings.

I liked this book and appreciated that it went into depth on the different aspects of literature. This book is well written and opens our eyes to different ways to view how literature is written. This book is wonderful for both students new to reading literature and those who wish to enrich their reading of it.

I learned many different ways to read the different aspects of a book and now see new ways to analyze literature. I would especially recommend this book to those new to the study of literature.

I acknowledge that I won this book through a Goodreads contest and this is my honest and unbiased opinion of the book.

The Legacy Letters by Carew Papritz

The Legacy Letters: his Wife, His Children, His Final Gift; Carew Papritz's first novel shares profound down to earth wisdom on many things from books to money. The unknown narrator is dying of a terminal illness and is writing letters to his unborn children. He shares his personal wisdom, gained through life experience, to his children as his final gift to them.

The way this book is written sounds like poetry at times. I love the way this book flows beautifully and gives you a picture of the narrators life.

There is fundamental soundness in The Legacy Letters that will keep you reading it again and again.  One nugget of wisdom we are reminded of in this book is, " Time. We are only given so much of it." This book made me laugh and think about the world we live in. The Legacy Letters makes you take a second look at life.

This book reminded me somewhat of Tuesday's with Morrie by Mitch Albom in that both books are filled with many gems of wisdom about life and how to truly live. I would recommend this book to fans of Tuesday's with Morrie.

The Heart of the Matter: A Simple Guide to Discovering Gifts in Strange Wrapping Paper by Dr. Darren R. Weissman and Cate Montana

The Heart of the Matter: A Simple Guide to Discovering Gifts in Strange Wrapping Paper by Dr. Daren R. Weissman and Cate Montana, M.A., guides us through the See Hear Feel Challenge to live a more authentic life that is true to our heart's desire. This book enables us to live authentically and truly hear what our heart is telling us.

The See Hear Feel Challenge presented in this book is so simple and easy to use, yet it will profoundly change your life to live more true to yourself. This challenge shows us that through truly acknowledging our emotions we can live our heart's desire and overcome our personal self-undoing patterns and negativity.

I was profoundly moved by this book. The exercises found inside the book showed us how to use the See Hear Feel Challenge in every aspect of our lives from addictions to personal shame.

In The Heart of the Matter we are shown that our emotions can either inhibit our lives or empower us and our lives. The one thing I loved most was that we are shown how to create a garden of self-love for ourselves.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to overcome fearful emotions and live a more empowered life.

Energetic Healing: Embracing the Life Force by Arnie Lade

Energetic Healing: Embracing the Life Force by Arnie Lade is a book which shows us how eastern Chinese medicine and modern science compliment each other. This book speaks of the seven energy centers of our body known as chakras. Energetic Healing shows how the chakras and also meridians in our body can influence our health. We are shown how a meridian line in the toe can influence something that is wrong with our liver.

My favorite chapter in the book is entitled, "Healing Concepts and Meditation." This chapter shows us how the use of meditation can help us heal ourselves. I also liked how at the end of each chapter there were exercises to integrate what was learned from that chapter, such as, "sensing the aura" and "cleansing with healing energy".

There is a chapter regarding energy and the human embryo and anatomy. While I understand the authors' reasoning for speaking so much about this I personally felt that the writing became somewhat dry. However, despite that I did like how the author took the human embryo and anatomy and showed us how our energy effected it and how one was not independent of the other.

I would recommend this book to those who wish to learn more about energetic healing and how it impact the human body.

Writing for You: A Novelist's Guide to the Craft of Fiction by Victoria Grefer

Writing For You: A Novelist's Guide to the Craft of Fiction by Victoria Grefer was a book I found helpful. That author shows us that we should write for ourselves. She tells us that writing is truly for the writer. Victoria, also shows us that we should respect our readers and not insult their intelligence through over explanation but also that we should not assume the reader knows everything by leaving out too much.

I appreciated that there was a chapter on style, due to it being a good refresher for me. One of the chapters I liked was on "Social Media Marketing," because I personally only use a few main sites and I learned about other sites that I think would be of interest to authors and bloggers alike.

One of my favorite lines from the book is when the author is speaking of our "inner editor", known as Eeyore by the author, and how to ignore it when we need to keep writing. When you need help to keep writing, "...picture Dory the fish from Finding Nemo slapping Eeyore across the nose with her tail fin while chanting, "Just keep writing, just keep writing, just keep writing, writing, writing." Seriously." I laughed out loud when I read it, and picturing Dory and Eeyore works.

The only criticism that I have for this book is that throughout the book the author tells us again and again to read On Writing by Stephen King. Now, I'm sure On Writing is a good book, but for me I felt it was a tad much. However, I do no think that it was so much that I could not give this book five out of five stars, as it was well written and engaging for the reader.

Overall, I thought this book was a great read and would be helpful to anyone to give them better writing. I believe this book would be good even for those who do not aspire to being novelists.

I acknowledge that I received this book for free in a Goodreads giveaway and this is my unbiased opinion of the book.

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Tuesdays with Morrie: an old man, a young man, and life's greatest lesson by Mitch Albom is a heartwarming memoir about a student and his final class with his dying professor. This is a beautiful story about the wisdom of a professor, dying of ALS named Morrie Schwartz.

Morrie, known as coach by the author Mitch Albom, is a wise, funny, and endearing professor. Morrie teaches us that in accepting death we learn to live. Morrie imparts wisdom regarding family, marriage, death, and society.

I had heard about this book for awhile now and had never read it. I am glad that I finally picked it up the other day because it is as profound and as memorable as I had been told.

Tuesdays with Morrie is a small little book that is filled with many nuggets of wisdom for everyone. Everyone could learn something from this book, the most important being to enjoy life and live in the moment because no one knows how long they have left. I am extremely glad that I have added this wonderful book to my collection.

The Miracles of Archangel Gabriel by Doreen Virtue

The Miracles of Archangel Gabriel by Doreen Virtue is a wonderfully inspiring work on the help and insight that Archangel Gabriel can bring if we only ask. Archangel Gabriel is the "chief messenger" angel. Gabriel helps us will all areas of communication from speaking to writing. Gabriel also helps pregnant women, women in labor, parents, and children.

This book is wonderfully illustrated throughout with wonderful pictures of Archangel Gabriel. I was wonderfully surprised to find that if one calls upon Archangel Gabriel that Gabriel will help one with writing and if writing a manuscript will help until one is finished. I was happy to find that Gabriel would help one pursue a career in writing.

Also, being that I have young children myself, I was happy to find that Gabriel would help co-parent our children and help watch over them.

I highly recommend this book to both parents and writers to help them learn how Gabriel can help them in their lives. This is an absolutely wonderful book with exquisite illustrations. It is a short read and will show you how to have Archangel Gabriel help you in your life. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about Archangel Gabriel.

The Greening by Margaret Coles

The Greening by Margaret Coles is a novel filled with mystery, love, and adventure. While this book is fictional it is based upon a book written by a woman named Julian who had visions of Jesus and the crucifixion.

In the book The Greening by Margaret Coles the author shows us through the main character, Joanna, a journalist, that God is love and the meaning of everything is love. We are taken on a journey by the journalist to discover meaning and find that God is not a God of vengeance. We are shown that whatever comes our way, "all shall be well".  We are taught about a God that loves us and does not see our sin.

In The Greening the main character sees that we all have to come to our own personal Calvary where hope and grief meet in order to surrender control and find peace.

This book reminded me of The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield in that it shows us important concepts in story form.

While there was a significant christian undertone to the book, I found that its' overall encompassing message of love is one everyone can relate to.  I think that this is a wonderful first novel by Margaret Coles.

Traveling at the Speed of Love by Sonia Choquette

Traveling at the Speed of Love by Sonia Choquette is a book that will inspire and help us all to fly higher at the speed of love. This book shows us how to stop living in fear and travel higher to a brighter, more healing vibration of love.

This book uses the analogy of a plane trip to show us how to travel at the frequency of love. While learning to travel at the frequency of love we learn to overcome our ego and the victim based consciousness in which we live. At the end of each chapter there are flying lessons, basic and advanced, that give us ways we can incorporate what was shown in each particular chapter into our lives.

One of my favorite chapters is entitled, "Catching the Jet Stream of Grace," in which we are shown ways to have grace in our lives. We are shown that creating grace in our lives helps protect us from the fear based consciousness in which we live.  We are also shown that the more we travel at the speed of love the more we will meet like minded 'travelers.'

I absolutely loved this book and would definitely recommend it to everyone to help them travel higher at the speed of love.

Life's Operating Manual: With the Fear and Truth Dialogues by Tom Shadyac

Life's Operating Manual: With the Fear and Truth Dialogues by Tom Shadyac is a book of short essays and conversations between Fear and Truth. The book starts out with an old Native American legend about two wolves; one bad (fear), and the other good (truth). The author goes on to say that we each have two wolves inside us and which one wins depends on which wolf we feed, fear or truth.

In each chapter of the book the author focuses on different aspects of our lives and humanity as a whole and then has a dialogue at the end between fear and truth.

One of the main points of this book is that humans are not hardwired for competition, we are hardwired to live in cooperation with each other.  The author also argues that we are not hardwired for negativity but rather to live positively and that is why we are so captivated with negativity in the news, because it goes against what comes naturally to us as human beings.

I found this book to be a quick, short, and easy read. I read it through all at once and could not put it down. My favorite part of the book was the dialogues between fear and truth at the end of each chapter. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to challenge their current world view.

The Inside-Out Revolution: The Only Thing You Need to Know to Change Your Life Forever by Michael Neill

The Inside-Out Revolution: The Only Thing You Need to Know to Change Your Life Forever by Michael Neill is a book on simply being. This book introduces us to three principles which are:

1. The God Principle: Mind

2. The Awareness Principle: Consciousness

3. The Creative Principle: Thought

Using these three principles we remember how to simply be. We are shown that meditation is our natural state and that a quiet mind is also a natural state.

I found this book to be a short and conversational read. While there are no practices in this book or exercises to do I found it very easy to implement the three principles. We are shown that we need to live from the inside out instead of the outside in.

I especially liked the principle of thought and how if you simply think something new (by just using your next thought) you can change your was of seeing the world. I thought this book was very insightful.

I would recommend this book to those who are looking for a way to get aback to their natural self and return to their default settings. This book was a very good read and I will definitely read it again.

The Kinslow System: Your Path to Proven Success in Health, Love, and Life by Dr. Frank J. Kinslow

The Kinslow System: Your Path to Proven Success in Health, Love, and Life by Dr. Frank J. Kinslow is a book based on a system called Quantum Entertainment (QE). Quantum Entertainment is a system that shows one how to quiet the mind and get in touch with Eufeeling or Self.

This book shows us how to get in touch with Eufeeling while doing anything from brushing our teeth to driving. It also shows us how to use Quantum Entertainment to heal ourselves and others.

One of the things mentioned about QE is to, "remember: If it isn't easy and it isn't fun, then it isn't QE." One of the best things about Quantum Entertainment is that is is surprisingly simple once you get used to it and anyone can do it. The Kinslow System is a complete system that shows people how to be in touch with their true nature at all times. I continue to be amazed at the sure simplicity of the system and the amazing results it can have in people's lives.  This book is simple and profound.

Directing Your Destiny: How to Become the Writer, Producer, and Director of Your Dreams by Jennifer Grace

Directing Your Destiny: How to Become the Writer, Producer, and Director of Your Dreams by Jennifer Grace is a wonderful book on manifestation. She uses her history as an actress to show us how to manifest our dreams. We learn to write the movie, produce it, and direct it.

The book takes us through four weeks to learn how to create our dreams.  The book contains practices for us to do to implement into our lives to help us manifest what we want. During the first week we learn to focus and figure out what our dreams are. During the second week we learn to get rid of negative thought patterns and believe in our dreams. During the third week we learn to feel our dreams and finally to surrender them to a higher power.

This book is simply amazing. I could not put it down. I read it through completely once to get an overview and am now going back and taking it week by week.

Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself by Lissa Rankin, M.D.

Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself by Lissa Rankin, M.D. is a book that can revolutionize the medical community. It is for healers and patients alike. This book teaches us to listen to our Inner Pilot Light and write our own prescription for optimal health.

I loved the fact that Lissa Rankin recommended using not just one's doctor but also life coaches and non-traditional healers, and to bring them all to a 'round table' where the patient is the final decision maker following their own Inner Pilot Light in the decisions they make.

As one interested in healing and helping others I found this book to be very inspiring and uplifting in it's message. I also liked the fact that she backed up what she was saying with real examples from medical journals (the end notes are found in the back with where the studies are found). I thin that everyone should read this boo not only to help possibly cure themselves of diseases they already have but also to prevent diseases from happening in the first place. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants better overall mind, body, and spirit health. This book is amazing.

The Tapping Solution: A Revolutionary System for Stress-Free Living by Nick Ortner is a book which everyone should read. This book is based on  a system that uses a form of Chinese acupressure and modern psychology to help relieve pain.

The Honeymoon Effect: the science of creating heaven on earth by Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D.

The Honeymoon Effect: the Science of Creating Heaven on Earth by Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D. is about creating loving relationships and having that harmonious feeling we get when we first fall in love all the time, not just in the beginning.

According to Bruce Lipton in order to do this we have to be willing to change ourselves by realizing there is a problem, figuring out the pattern that is emerging from our childhood and changing our subconscious mind. We also have to realize that things take time to change so we must be patient and be willing to change our subconscious again and again. We also must be willing to talk to the other person about how we feel.

This book also shows us how to recognize both positive and negative vibes. It shows the impact that can happen when we do not listen to our intuition in an example given by Bruce about a time he did not listen to his own vibes.

This book was an inspiration to me to show me how to create better relationships with my family and others. I am now starting to create the "honeymoon effect" in my own life.  I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to create more loving relationships in their own life.

Being of Power by Baron Baptiste

Being of Power: The 9 Practices to Ignite an Empowered Life by Baron Baptiste is an amazing book. I was completely engulfed inn this book from beginning to end. I could not put it down.

The nine practices in this book have not only inspired me but by putting them into practice have truly empowered me.  I feel lighter, more vibrant, and truly free since putting these practices into my life.

One of my favorite practices is called "Give It Up To Get Empty" in which we learn a new way to let go of our limiting perceptions and "create space for grace" as Baron Baptiste puts it.

Another of the practices I loved in this book was about speaking straight from the heart instead of from what we know. This practice shows us how to truly connect to other people, which many of us no longer do.  When using all of the practices in this book I believe that we can all truly learn to live of power.

This book is truly a must read for anyone and everyone who wants to live more authentically and from their own power. This book is a must for any spiritual seeker's library. I know it will be one I read again and again.

Your Hidden Symmetry: How Your Birth Date Reveals The Plan For Your Life by Jean Haner

Your Hidden Symmetry: How Your Birth Date Reveals the Plan for Your Life by Jean Haner is a book which uses an ancient system called "Nine Star Ki" to help you find the plan for your life. The Nine Star Key system is based upon thousands of years of observation of the natural world and its cycles. Your Hidden Symmetry: How Your Birth Date Reveals the Plan for Your Life shows you how these cycles effect your life both in the past and future.

I found the descriptions of my "true nature" to be specifically true for myself. I also found the descriptions of the particular year that I am in to be true. This book continued to amaze me as I looked up my numbers and those of others. The Nine Star Ki system rang true every time.

The affirmations in the back of the book by Louise Hay fro my "True Nature" were especially helpful to me and helped me to grow and discover more of myself.

I would recommend the book Your Hidden Symmetry: How Your Birth Date Reveals the Plan for Your Life to anyone who is interested in discovering their inner nature and true calling in life. This book is a must.

All Is Well: Heal your body with medicine, affirmations, and intuition by Louise Hay and Mona Lisa Schulz

All Is Well: Heal Your Body with Medicine, Affirmations, and Intuition By Louise L. Hay and Mona Lisa Schulz, M.D. PhD. is a book that blends the concepts of intuition and western medicine. This book combines the best of using affirmations, intuition, and scientific medicine to help us create a life of health and wellness.

The different chapters in this book are broken up by the "seven emotional centers" similar to the seven chakras in the body that many people are familiar with, and explains the correlation between them and the body's overall health.

At the beginning of the book there is a self-assessment quiz and once you take it you learn which areas or "emotional centers" of the body are in need of healing. By learning which areas are in need of healing you can then go to that section of the book specifically or read the entire book from front to back.

This is the first book I have read by Louise Hay and I found it to be informative and helpful in learning to use modern science, affirmations, and intuition together to heal ourselves. I will defiantly be reading more of her books. I especially enjoyed the real life examples in each chapter which showed me how healing in this way is possible.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in combining the use of traditional and nontraditional medicine to heal themselves both physically and emotionally.

IS: Your Authentic Spirituality Unleashed by Faith Freed

IS: Your Authentic Spirituality Unleashed by Faith Freed is a book that explains common spiritual principles, such as being present, synchronicity, and that we are all connected, in a fun, entertaining, and easy to understand way.

Through the analogy of a Holy Disco Ball we learn about God referred to as IS or Infinite Source by Faith Freed, our Higher Self referred to as Inspired Self, our physical body or Incarnate Self, and finally nature referred to as Incarnate Source. We learn to connect to all these things with authenticity and what feels true for us and not through any one religion. In the book we are encouraged to take what we feel is true for us and leave the rest.

We learn that by being present right now it will help us to appreciate what is right in front of us.

The book also has 'Shout-Outs' to Infinite Source which are prayers to say so that we are helped to learn the lesson in that chapter. There are invitations at the end of each chapter which give us suggestions on how to integrate the lesson into our lives. As Faith Freed explains it at the end of each chapter are anchors which, "reinforce the big ideas by offering key phrases to refer back to at a glance."

I would recommend this book to those who want a new fun way to look at classical spiritual concepts.

ThetaHealing Rhythm for Finding Your Perfect Weight by Vianna Stibal

ThetaHealing Rhythm for Finding Your Perfect Weight  by Vianna Stibal teaches you to change long held negative beliefs hat are stopping you from losing weight through what she calls, "belief work." While belief work is touched upon in this book I believe that reading her others books, ThetaHealing and Advanced ThetaHealing, would better help the reader to understand belief work than this book alone.

It also teaches one to lose weight through blessing one's food from the time it is a seed to the time that you eat it.  This book also teaches you to bless your supplements and how to use energy work to find out which supplements are right for you. We also learn about different supplements to take and how they help us to lose weight.

One of my favorite parts of the book,  ThetaHealing Rhythm for Finding Your Perfect Weight was when the author, Vianna Stibal, shows us how we can lose weight by making our brain think we are exercising while listening to music, even if we aren't.

Overall, the book was a good read and I would recommend it to others. However, if you have not read Vianna's other books on ThetaHealing I would recommend reading those first that you have a better overall understanding of the system.

Loveablity by Robert Holden

Loveability by Robert Holden is a book which invites us back to our essence, our true self, which is love. It teaches that through true self-love we can achieve unconditional love of self, others, and the world around us.

Loveability teaches that there are only two realities and emotions: one is love and the other is fear. To live in love is to be truly happy and realize the essential truth that we are love. Our true essence is love and "the fall from grace," as Robert Holden puts it, is when we forget that we are loveable. Forgetting that we are loveable is the cause of all our suffering and all the problems of the world according to the book Loveability.

This book shows us that all our judgments of ourselves and others are the ego's blocks to love. It shows us that all love, whether it be for friends, family, or pets is the same love. Loveability shows that the more we truly love ourselves the more we can love others and the world around us.

The book also shows us that forgiveness for "not believing you are loveable," will lead you back to love and show us we are loveable again.

I would recommend this book to everyone in order to find true self love and to remind them that, "you are loveable."

I received this book free of charge from Hay House in exchange for my honest review of the book.

E-Squared by Pam Grout

Many books have been written about how thoughts shape our reality and that the world around us is influenced by them. E-squared by Pam Grout is one of the most insightful books on the subject I have read. It shows through experiments done by the reader how to attract abundance into one's life and that we do control how we see the world. E-squared challenges us to nine experiments in order to realize that our internal thoughts create our external reality. In the experiments we learn everything from there being a force of infinite possibilities to the fact that, as Pam Grout states, "The universe is limitless, abundant, and strangely accommodating."

E-Squared is funny, light, and hard to put down. In fact I liked this book so much I did the first three experiments at once. I got immediate results. Let's say I saw a lot of cars and butterflies.

If you have doubts I encourage you to put your doubts aside, just for the 48 hours it takes to do the experiments (at least most of them) and see if they really do work. You will be amazed. From the beginning to the end of this book you will be astounded at the results and how in a scientific manner we are shown our thoughts affect our everyday reality.
